Art and Crafts

Melted crayon art has taken Pinterest by storm, but not all crayon art is created equal. You need to have a good composition, not just throw some crayons on a canvas. But be not afraid! As an art teacher, I have a few tricks and tips for you to get the most beautiful results from your Crayolas.

I am OBSESSED with these colorful canvases. They just screams “art teacher!” I have made two so far. One for myself, pictured above, and one for an art teacher friend. They make great gifts! Do all the hard work of laying out and gluing the crayons, but let them do the fun stuff with the hairdryer.

People think that since I am an art teacher, my house is decorated perfectly. They are wrong. I have my paintings hanging on the wall, and that is about it. It doesn’t help that hubby hates anything he perceives as clutter. Decorating is like walking on eggshells with him.

Right before school started, I was hit with a big urge to craft and decorate. My problem is that I am not at all “crafty”. I am the type of chick who is more comfortable with a miter saw than a glue gun. (more…)

A work in progress:

Art teacher by day and foodie by night, with a little grad school thrown in for good measure leaves very little time for me to make my own art. This week, however, is a week off from grad school. I plan to take full advantage of it and get some paintings (ok, maybe just one) complete.

The painting that I am working on currently is based off if this photo:

but I am using blues and greens for my background. It is not meant to be anything other than pretty to look at. It is to hang in my house so no deeper meaning required 🙂

Here is my favorite part. Before I started on the trees, I highly textured the background. I just love how it looks with the camera flash on.
